Having a tooth removed can be an unpleasant thought, but the team at Sango Family Dentistry is here to make the process as easy and as comfortable as possible. We will provide you with a fast and efficient extraction so that you can focus on improving your oral health.
Our experts will normally extract a tooth if it is too severely damaged to be restored or if it is causing problems for other teeth. Our main goal when providing an extraction is to ensure that the process is completed with both safety and efficiency. We also do everything possible to keep the patient comfortable before, during and after the procedure. Most patients find that having a tooth removed is a surprisingly easy process with little-to-no pain or discomfort. Our practice also offers wisdom teeth removal procedures for patients who are starting to develop their third molars.
We offer various methods of sedation to ensure that the patient is kept comfortable and relaxed during an extraction. Each extraction is planned carefully using digital X-rays that are provided before the procedure. Most teeth can be removed in a matter of seconds, but there are occasionally some extractions that require a more extensive process. The recovery process starts as soon as the tooth is removed. We will take steps to have the patient form a blood clot at the extraction site to restrict the blood loss. From there, the patient will need to avoid disturbing the blood clot for at least the next 24 hours. Proper healing should then follow over the next few days to a week. We can then discuss replacing the extracted tooth if necessary.
Teeth are removed for many reasons including severe injuries, declining dental health and any tooth growth that interferes with one or more other teeth.
Most patients do not feel any major pain during an extraction, but they may experience a sensation of pressure as the tooth is pulled. Using effective sedation helps to ensure that a patient will experience little-to-no discomfort during the process. The sedation methods we offer include local anesthesia, oral sedation, IV sedation, general anesthesia and laughing gas.
Patients who have had a tooth removed usually find that they have a hard time chewing tough foods during recovery. It is often best to stick to only soft foods until healing is complete.
A person’s wisdom teeth are the final four molars that grow in the very back of the mouth. They usually emerge when a person is in their late teens or early twenties. These teeth are almost always removed since they develop at a severe angle, and there is very little space available for them. Wisdom teeth extractions are typically more intensive than standard extractions, and a patient can normally expect a slightly longer recovery period.
